Pharmaceutical Manufacturing - Thinking Bigger, Part 2

Last year Sepmag worked with Pharmaceutical Manufacturing to publish an article about the challenges of scaling up the biomagnetic separation process. That article was the first of a two-part series about downstream biopharmaceutical processing efficiency. Now, the series has been completed by the addition of a second article. It provides more detailed information about the process and drives home the point that biomagnetic separation is ready for large-scale processing.

Pharmaceutical Manufacturing is a publication dedicated to improving communication between experts and leaders in the drug industry. The main focus of the publication is to decrease wasted time and materials during the manufacturing process. The publication is committed to sharing ideas among leaders in the field about how to most efficiently scale-up processes while maintaining quality and compliance with regulatory organizations.

The second article, written by Lluis M. Martinez, PhD. CSO, SEPMAG, focuses on the two advantages of Sepmag’s biomagnetic separation systems.

  • Firstly, these systems are engineered to provide homogenous magnetic force over all the working volume, which maintains separation efficiency and speed even at large volumes while preventing irreversible aggregation.
  • Secondly, the systems include process montoring to ensure batch-to-batch consistency and quality control. The overall point is that biomagnetic separation can easily be implemented at large volumes if the magnetic force is correctly defined for the sample volume and magnetic beads used.
